Classic Blackjack — how to play
Beat the dealer to 21 with standard rules: dealer stands on soft 17, blackjack pays 3:2, double on any two cards and split pairs once.
Play Classic BlackjackThe basics
Get closer to 21 than the dealer without going bust. Cards two to ten count their number, picture cards count ten and aces count one or eleven. Six decks are shuffled before every hand. The dealer stands on all 17s and checks for blackjack when showing an ace or a ten-value card.
- Blackjack pays 3 to 2; other wins pay 1 to 1; a tie returns your stake.
- Double down on any first two cards: your stake doubles and you take one more card.
- Split a pair once. Split aces get one card each, and 21 after a split is not a blackjack.
- Insurance is offered when the dealer shows an ace: it costs half your stake and pays 2 to 1 if the dealer has blackjack.
- A hand worth more than 21 is bust and loses.

Results come from your browser's Web Crypto random number generator at the moment you play; nothing about your balance, level or earlier rounds changes the odds. For members, each round is booked on our server, which checks it against the paytable limits before updating your balance. Over a very long run, about 94 to 97 Embers of every 100 played come back as wins (standard card and wheel games follow their usual maths), but short sessions vary a lot.
Every game uses Embers or demo credits only. They have no cash value and cannot be bought or exchanged. Practice or success here does not mean future success at real-money gambling. If a game ever stops mid-round, reload the page: a round is only booked when it finishes.
